Transforming Trauma: A Sacred Path to Healing

September 10, 20244 min read

Healing unresolved trauma is something I reflect on constantly. As a trauma survivor, somatic trauma therapist, and teacher of Trauma Energetics Coaching, it’s no wonder that my time and energy are so deeply invested in this work.

As a survivor, I’m profoundly grateful for my own healing. As a therapist, I’m continually inspired by the courage my clients show as they step into their healing journey. And as a teacher, I am driven to share these tools with other practitioners so that more people can be supported in their path to wholeness.

For me, being part of and witnessing the healing process is incredibly fulfilling. There is nothing more fascinating or powerful than watching someone undergo what I call a “sacred transformation.”

My introduction to these sacred transformations happened in my early twenties when I worked as a massage therapist. During that time, I had the honor of supporting cancer patients in their final moments of life. Sharing these precious moments left a deep and lasting impression. With each person, I could feel a palpable presence of love and peace filling the room and my heart. I became aware of the energetic and spiritual shift taking place, and I was profoundly moved by the sacredness of it all.

The next sacred transformation I encountered was childbirth. This is where I truly became hooked. There’s nothing like the adrenaline rush of witnessing a new soul entering this world. At the first birth I attended as a midwife apprentice, I was struck by the same overwhelming love and presence I had felt with the cancer patients. In that moment, I knew I was part of something truly sacred. One birth was all it took to fuel my passion for midwifery.

I fell in love with witnessing the transition of new life, the transformation of a woman into a mother, and the creation of a family. I thought I’d be a midwife for the rest of my life. But a traumatic labor experience during my son’s birth changed that path. The intensity of the trauma was so profound that I chose to step away from midwifery.

This trauma, however, led me on a personal healing journey that ultimately guided me toward becoming a trauma therapist. Once again, I found myself in the space of sacred transitions and transformation—this time through somatic trauma healing.

To my surprise, I discovered that supporting people as they rewire old trauma patterns and heal from unresolved wounds carries the same sacred, energetic qualities as birth and death. I call this space “the soup”—the powerful, transformative space where clients process trauma somatically, through their bodies. There’s magic in this process as clients release unexpressed emotions and move through stuck energy.

Just like a midwife, I hold space and patiently witness the healing unfold. As they journey deeper into the process, something remarkable happens. They begin to connect with their Essential Self—that unbreakable, eternal part of themselves that is always whole, despite the external chaos. Their wounded self begins to relax, surrender, and soften.

In this sacred transformation, clients experience a deeper sense of connection and integration. Their hearts open, and their capacity for love and self-love expands. They shift from identifying with their wounds to identifying with their Essential Self, Higher Self, or Divine Self—whatever name resonates most. (To read more about the Essential Self, you can check out my blog titled Trauma Healing is a Spiritual Process HERE.)

This healing process may not be the same as the literal transitions into and out of physical life, but it is an immense internal, energetic and life changing shift. It allows us to release the trauma, stories, and unhealthy behaviors that have kept us trapped. The light of our Essential Self is the true healing force. As we align more fully with this part of ourselves, we move into a new phase of life where we can access and act on the wisdom of our Essential Self.  This, to me, is the most sacred transition and transformation of all.  It’s the awakening to our true self and our true potential as eternal being having a temporary human experience.
